about

The melodious voices of Blackbirds are often the first to begin the European spring dawn chorus.

This recording takes us into an old growth woodland, where Blackbird territories intersect, to hear several birds singing in lusty voice.

We first hear the opening notes of the dawn chorus, with tawny owls also calling nearby. We are then treated to a rich solo from a single Blackbird, which eventually opens out into a rich chorus of morning birdsong; blue tits, serins, chaffinches, nuthatch, raven and cuckoo.

Finally, something special. Blackbirds are an introduced species into Australia and New Zealand, and our concluding track features a dusk solo from one of these antipodean Blackbirds.
